- GAD3 has carried out a study on the birth rate and fertility situation of the people of Madrid for the preparation of the Strategy for the protection of maternity and paternity and the promotion of the birth rate and work-life balance 2022-2026 of the Community of Madrid.
One of the main conclusions drawn from the GAD3 survey is that just under a third of women aged 18-44 intend to have children in the short term. The remaining two thirds might reconsider their decision if certain economic, employment and personal conditions change.
For this purpose, on the one hand, a micro-data analysis of the annual statistics of Natural Population Movement in 2019, the annual statistics of the Continuous Register until 2020 and the 2018 Fertility Survey of the National Institute of Statistics has been carried out. Secondly, focus groups have been organised with women between 20 and 45 years old who have children and would like to have more, and women who do not refuse to have children in the future. Finally, an online survey was carried out among 500 women and 300 men, both aged between 18 and 45 and living in the Community of Madrid.
