70% of Alcorcón residents planning to buy or rent a home would like to continue living in the municipality.
Housing continues to occupy a central place in the concerns of society, and in the case of the municipality of Alcorcón, located in the Community of Madrid, this issue takes on particular relevance. In December 2024, Alcorcón Next published a study by GAD3 that provides significant data on the residential aspirations of local residents. According to the report, 70% of alcorconeros who plan to move in the next five years express their intention to remain in the municipality. This percentage is equivalent to approximately 24,800 people and shows the strong link between the population and their city, highlighting the importance of Alcorcón as a desirable place to live and develop on a personal and family level.

Housing demand: a growing challenge
The lack of available housing in Alcorcón represents one of the most significant challenges for the municipality. According to current projections, more than 13,400 additional dwellings would need to be built to meet the expected demand in the coming years. This problem is exacerbated in the wider context of the Community of Madrid, where estimates indicate an accumulated shortfall of approximately 300,000 dwellings by 2039. The situation highlights the importance of implementing strategic solutions to address housing needs at both local and regional levels.

Residential preferences: a vision for the future
The study shows a clear preference among residents for flats, which account for 60% of the total, followed by single-family homes, which account for 36%. This trend highlights the aspirations of Alcorconeros to have access to larger homes, with an ideal size of between 100 and 149 square metres. Among the most valued aspects when choosing a home, price stands out as the determining factor, followed by location and the distribution of space, which also play a fundamental role in residential decisions.

Young people as key players in the search for housing
The 18-29 age group leads the demand for housing in Alcorcón, accounting for 67% of active searches in the local property market. This translates into approximately 13,100 young people interested in accessing a home that will allow them to improve their quality of life. This demographic group shows a clear inclination to settle in an environment that allows them to maintain proximity to both their families and workplaces, reflecting their priorities in terms of location and connectivity.
