Forty per cent of young people under the age of 30 live with their parents.
During the Construmat trade fair in Barcelona, the II Barometer of Housing in Spain was presented. This study was conducted by the CGATE with technical support from GAD3. The second edition of this barometer focuses on key issues such as mental health, young people and unwanted loneliness. It reveals significant data, such as the fact that 4 out of 10 young people under the age of 30 live with their parents, and that around 40% of young people between the ages of 18 and 30 who have left home have required financial assistance from their families.

How does your home affect your emotional and mental well-being?
When asked this question, 68% of the population believes that their home has a positive influence on their emotional and mental well-being. This perception is particularly high among homeowners, at 78%, compared to 49% of tenants who share this opinion.

Anxiety, stress, depression, fear of losing their home…
Almost 40% of the population say they have experienced an increase in the cost of their rent or mortgage in recent years. In addition, one in four have experienced stress or anxiety while looking for a home, and nearly 20% have felt afraid of losing their home or have experienced episodes of depression related to their housing situation.

Housing influences loneliness: those over 65 are the most affected
More than a third of people over 65 believe that the characteristics of their home directly influence their feelings of loneliness. This feeling is particularly intense among those who rent, where the percentage is even higher than among homeowners. Factors such as location, general condition and lack of light seem to play a significant role in emotional quality of life.
-
How concerned are you about the possibility of feeling lonely in the future?
One in four adults over the age of 65 say they are very or quite concerned about the possibility of feeling lonely in the future. For people over 65, loneliness is understood as a lack of physical company—that is, being alone without the presence of other people—a constant feeling of isolation, but also, in some cases, a chosen state that allows them to enjoy peace and independence.
