8 out of 10 consider childhood obesity to be a problem in Spain.
Last November, GAD3 presented the study conducted for Novo Nordisk on the knowledge and perception of obesity in Spain. Now Novo Nordisk has made public more data on this research in which 3,078 people were interviewed. The survey revealed that 66% of Spaniards believe that the lifestyle of children and adolescents today is less healthy than before. As for the measures considered most effective in preventing childhood obesity, they point out the following: raising children’s awareness of the health implications of obesity from an early age (29%), reducing the use of screens to encourage other active leisure options (22%), carrying out awareness campaigns for parents (12%) and intervening in economically disadvantaged population centers because they have a higher risk of obesity (9%).

Sources of information
When looking for information on how to take care of themselves and maintain a healthy weight, half of Spaniards admit to turning to health professionals as their main source. Family and friends, i.e. the personal environment, are the second and third most consulted sources, with 27% and 21% respectively. For 16%, influencers have become a reference in the search for this type of content. Meanwhile, 15% of respondents said they do not seek information to maintain a healthy weight.

Emotional health
8 out of 10 people in Spain have been above their ideal weight. 67% of those surveyed recognize that their state of mind is very or fairly related to their weight. This figure rises to 72% among people who suffer or have suffered from obesity. Although the effect of weight on mood decreases with age, women are more affected than men in all ranges, and 70% of them have felt at some time that their appearance has negatively affected their self-esteem.
