A sectoral look at the impact and adoption of AI in the workplace
The event also included a round table discussion, moderated by Arantxa Herranz, with the participation of experts from different sectors:
- Montse Civera, Academic Director of Planeta Formación y Universidades
- Javier Martínez, Director of Customer Engineering at Google Cloud Spain
- Carmen Manteca, Head of Talent Acquisition at Deloitte.
- Javier Villalón, Director of Healthcare Management at Vithas
- Silvia de Cristóbal, Development and Transformation Manager at Grupo Atresmedia
- Irene Yusta, Director of Data & AI at MasOrange
During the round table, participants discussed knowledge and perception of AI, its adaptation in the workplace, automation, efficiency, and new professional roles. Participants agreed on the potential of AI to automate routine tasks and improve products and services, although they noted that less than 20% of companies offer specific training and many workers fear the impact on employment. They also analyzed sectoral speeds and barriers: audiovisual and education are leading the way in adoption, while healthcare and other companies are progressing more slowly. Training, lack of knowledge, and regulation were identified as the main obstacles, underscoring the importance of creating partnerships between companies and training centers.

Emilio Viciana, Minister of Education, Science, and Universities, closes the event, contextualizing the work being done by institutions, especially those involved in education, to promote training in artificial intelligence, such as the creation of new specialized centers or training cycles, and even the new challenges posed by AI in education, such as new forms of assessment.

So, what is the conclusion?
AI is widely known in the four countries where the study was conducted: Spain, Colombia, Italy, and France, although Spain has invested less in its adoption. Managers and workers perceive the technology differently: while the former consider it an ally for automating tasks and increasing competitiveness, the latter are somewhat skeptical. The audiovisual and education sectors lead the way in its implementation, compared to others such as healthcare, where progress is slower. Lack of training and knowledge remains the main barrier, although many professionals want to learn, and AI is beginning to transform job roles, reducing routine tasks and allowing people to focus on higher-value activities.
